IBEC

The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) was established in 2005 by the University of Barcelona (UB), the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) and the Regional Government of Catalonia, as a research centre aiming to develop multidisciplinary research of excellence, from basic research to medical applications, in the biomedical engineering field. With its headquarters in the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), IBEC hosts around 50 researchers and technicians associated mainly with the UB, UPC and other programmes for the incorporation of researchers. This multidisciplinary centre, which includes the Nanobio-engineering Research Laboratory, focuses its activity on six research programmes: Nanobio-engineering; Biomaterials, implants and tissue engineering; Cellular Biotechnology; Biomechanics and cellular biophysics; Medical signals and instrumentation; Robotics and biomedical imaging.
Multidisciplinary research groups from academia and industry and a wide range of state-of-the-art technological facilities make PCB a pioneering point of reference in technology transfer and the setting up of new technology-based companies. IBEC also has access to the powerful technological facilities of the PCB, including the Nanotechnology Platform, which provides services in nanometric fabrication, manipulation and analysis.
IBEC will manage the WP1 “inventory of infrastructures inside and outside EU” based on IBEC’s recognised experience at national and international level.
